About us

THE PROGRAM

Boggsville, founded in 1866, was the first non-fortified permanent settlement in Southeast Colorado and became the economic, cultural and educational hub of the area. Located on the Santa Fe Trail it provided services to those traveling the trail. The inhabitants prospered in the area considered largely uninhabitable labeled the Great American Desert. Today Boggsville Historic Site consists of over 100 acres of riparian and grass lands highlighted by the restored 1860’s Boggs and Prowers homes.

Creating ROOTS explores the climate, flora and fauna of the High Plains as well as the origins, traditions and adaptations of the residents that paved their way to sustainability in Southeast Colorado.
